Lt. Gov. Jeanette Nuñez was scheduled to attend a holiday reception at the White House Monday afternoon, but Gov. Ron DeSantis was not, according to the governor’s communications office.

The daily schedule for the governor and lieutenant governor placed Nuñez at the reception beginning at 3 p.m. Asked whether DeSantis would attend two days before the U.S. House of Representatives was to take up the impeachment of President Trump, Communications Director Helen Aguirre Ferré said, simply, “No.”

Trump has been DeSantis’ most important political supporter and the governor has been an ardent defender of the president. On Dec. 3, for example, DeSantis dismissed the impending impeachment as “typical Washington stuff” of no great interest to average people. Trump stands accused of abuse of authority and obstruction of Congress.

The last item on the governor’s list was an 11:30 a.m. call with his chief of staff, Shane Strum. Earlier, DeSantis named seven judges to trial courts in Miami-Dade County.
