Gov. DeSantis due at White House state dinner for Australian leader

Gov. Ron DeSantis was to attend a state dinner at the White House Friday night for Scott Morrison, prime minister of Australia.

The affair reportedly represents the second state dinner afforded a head of state during Trump’s administration.

DeSantis’ office included a note about the occasion in his daily schedule.

“Gov. DeSantis looks forward to speaking with Prime Minister Scott Morrison on a number of topics, including strategies to enhance public safety and ways to increase economic ties, including tourism, between Florida and Australia,” the governor’s communication team said via email.

As leader of Australia’s Liberal Party – which represents the right wing on that country’s political spectrum – Morrison and Trump have become political allies. Of course, DeSantis is one of Trump’s political proteges. And, like Trump and DeSantis, Morrison has taken a hard line on immigration.
